In Sangineto in the province of Cosenza, along the geological fault line that runs through the town, there is a site called “U Gugliu” by local elders, meaning “the hole,” “the ditch.” That name comes from a spring of water (the Vuglio) that emerges from the earth and gives birth to the Sangineto stream, which in one section makes a spectacular leap forming a natural waterfall inside a majestic cave.
